Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) condemning the targeted killing in Karachi said that from January 1 to January 11, 2010 over 18 workers of MQM (H) were killed, but no action has been taken yet on these and other killings.

In a letter to National Press Club Islamabad on Monday, the Haqiqi leaders said that for achieving peace, Karachi should be purged of all types of arms and ammunitions. The government should cancel all the arms' licenses after giving an ultimatum to people to deposit their firearms within one week, they added.

The leaders were of the view that Karachi police should be reorganised on modern lines by removing all the corrupt and incompetent officials. They want the government that if such measures were not taken, incidents like Lyari will be repeated every now and then.

If the government succeeded in taking these measures, 90 percent people of Karachi will support them and MQM (H) will provide all-out assistance in this regard, they added. They demanded of the government to immediately release Mohajir Qaumi Movement Chairman Amir Khan along with its workers and eliminate no-go areas in Karachi so that all the political parties should have equal opportunities to freely work in the city.

They said the families of the Haqiqi workers, who lost their lives in targeted killings, should be compensated by giving job to at least one member of each family along with financial support. They said people who were killed on the 10th of Muharram should be compensated financially at the earliest and the victims of Boulton Market should also be given financial assistance to restart their businesses, adding that the culprits involved in these incidents should be apprehended at the earliest.

Those who addressed the press conference included Muhammad Yunus Khan, Vice Chairman MQM (H), former member provincial assembly Sindh, Feroz Haidar, finance secretary and Muhammad Asif Shahryar, deputy secretary general MQM (H).
